Called to order 7:02 p.m.

  • New members - around the table introductions
  • President's Comments
    • Comments on Aug 1 Board Meeting
  • Treasurer Report - plans once we've got dues collected
  • Peter Scheuter moves to incorporate, Stephane Vennes seconds - vote passes
  • Dues proposal: $25/yr for Full Members, $5/yr Student Membership
    • Includes Membership in Astronomical League ($5/member)
    • Provides MAS/FITAS with insurance coverage
    • Provides discounts on Sky & Telescope and Astronomy Magazines
    • Stephane Vennes moves to approve dues structure. Peter Scheuter seconds. Motion passes
  • Vice President's Comments
    • Report: Worked with Don/Zoe/Kerry to reconstitute FITAS. Don Schroeder(?) will be President
    • Proposes that we seek FIT funding ($500) to restore C14 telescope, and asks for MAS help.
  • Newsletter Committee: Peter now has MS Publisher, so newsletter will be coming
  • Star Party Coordinator: No Harmony Star Party this past month. One planned for this week. RIck will send out email to mailing list with dates/times/directions when he knows more. Art suggests that when we have a star party we pass out a flyer to pass out to the public to advertise ourselves. Art also is hoping to find a place that is closer than Harmony for regularly scheduled star parties.
  • New Business
    • Mission Statement: The Mission Statement of the Melbourne/FIT Astronomical Society is "To serve the interests of the student and amateure astronomers in South Brevard County"
    • M. Wood moves / S Vennes seconds. Motion passes
    • Art: Astronomical League - should we join? Matt Wood moves , Peter Scheuter seconds. Motion passes
    • Upcoming Events: Chiefland Star Party in November, Keys Star Party
