- Approval of minutes
- President's discussion: lots of clouds for the last 2 months - not
much observing possible! Gary Scott reports that John Powell is teaching
an informal class at BCC on astrophotography on Thursday evenings.
- Treasurer report: No new members. 18 registered members currently.
Dues are now due. $5/student, $25/regular, $50/supporting, $100/contributer,
$1000/lifetime.
- SAS President's report: first meeting on Wednesday. Ideas discussed:
Messier Marathon, Trip to BCC planetarium. Discussion of best dark sites
within 1/2 hour of campus? C54 area is the closest dark spot. There's
a subdivision under development in the Grant area that might be a candidate.
It's 1 mile east of I95 at the Grant exit. Next meeting will be devoted
to discussing the model solar system project.
- Star parties
- at Camp Xyxlor next week.
- Feb 16 at Valkaria air show.
- March 8 at Camp Xyxlor. March 25 Midnight stroll at Erna Nixon
Park.
- Feb 20 is a total lunar eclipse. Starts at 8:30, mid at 10:15,
ends at midnight. BAS will have telescopes on their upper observing
deck.
- Winter star party in the Keys first week of February
- BAS Astronomy Day, May 17. 1pm-11pm at BCC Cocoa.
- Harmony Dark Sky Festival, April 5.
- Stephane Vennes, FIT Obs Director, 32" telescope in operation
since November. Additional gratings and a new CCD ordered. Discussion
of the recent observations, and plans for the near future.
